Is there one in Philadelphia, and if not, what's the closest option?

Do not know about Philadelphia.

I have picked up a glider in Baltimore. Other friends and I have had
good experiences there if you do not find a location closer.

We brought our ship in through Wilmington using Barthco as the agent.
Easy and not too expensive.

Used Barthco coming into Elizabeth, NJ. Easy.

I know that Bartco would not take on any new sailplane imports due to
problems they had with previous sailplane Owners. They will only
customs clear sailplanes for past clients.

FYI... stay away from PRIDE International..

I know that the guy at

AIRSCHOTT INC.
2609 CABOVER DR SUITE 9&10
P.O. BOX 28673
HANOVER, MD 21076 (410) 863-4777

was or is a glider pilot...

Well, if Barthco no longer deals with glider guiders, I trust my
Spitzer dealer will set me up with the right agent.

Click on EUROPE>>NORTH AMERICA link to see the routes/ports.
Excellent ro-ro service for trailered gliders.

I used Wallenius as well, and the schedules were great.
But you still need a broker or logistics firm at either end.

Make SURE you pick up the glider during business hours so you can have them
unload the glider trailer from the cargo trailer. Otherwise, you might turn
up at 8pm in Baltimore to find the trailer is up on the cargo trailer with
no way to remove the glider trailer.

I live in Delaware and have picked up Gliders at both Baltimore and
Delaware ports.

Baltimore is a little further away, but they have processed a lot of
gliders over the years and the agent I used had a clerk that was very
familiar with the process. The process went very quickly and was
inexpensive.

The Delaware port was only 15 minutes from my house, but the process
took longer and the fees seemed much higher.

Others experience may differ .... If I had a choice, I personally
would use Baltimore ...

I just got off the phone with a Barthco agent and he explained that
they had one or two glider buyers skip town without paying their bill.
He also said this doesn't mean Barthco won't work with more glider
importers; it means they'll have to pay in advance instead of being a
trusted party.

Tuno:

If you're bringing your ship to Arizona or California, how about
Jacksonville, Florida?

Mike:

My new tow vehicle is in Swedesboro NJ, just a few miles east of
Wilmington and 90 miles from Baltimore.

But if there's a Gulf Stream dealer close enough to another port who's
willing to sell me a 4230 Gollywomper Puller at a lower price, my
travel plans are flexible!

Can anyone offer specific experiences with southern east coast ports?

Brunswick? Charleston? Any others?

Importing a Schleicher and my dealer is goofing off at New Castle. At
least the bum is winning ...

If you don't mind saying, what is the shipping cost?
To the nearest $1000... I'm considering importing
a used glider from the UK. The market is so much bigger
there.

Thanks,
Sarah
